Emergency Dentistry in Toronto – Royal York Dental
Driven to Extremes by Dental Pain
In the movie Affliction, the character of Wade (played by Nick Nolte) has a toothache. His life is falling apart in various ways, and his aching molar is just one more nagging source of pain.
Finally, in a fit of desperation, Wade shoves a pair of pliers in his mouth and yanks his own tooth out. It’s a dramatic (and bloody) scene that shows just how excruciating a serious dental problem can be.
If you’re in pain and are considering drastic measures such as self-surgery – step away from the pliers!
Let Royal York Dental help instead.
Royal York Dental Emergency Services
Dr. Joe Bulger and the team at Royal York Dental see many patients like Wade who are at the end of their rope and just want relief from the pain.
“Dental emergencies can be incredibly painful,” says Dr. Joe, a Toronto dentist. “Your teeth are
a very sensitive part of your body, and dental pain can be especially nasty.”
When Toronto Emergency Dentistry patients come to us in crisis, our first priority is to ease their pain and make them comfortable. We offer Conscious Sedation Dentistry to take the stress out of emergency dental services. Next, we address the underlying causes of that pain to make sure it doesn’t come back.
Dental emergencies we treat at Royal York Dental include:
- Toothache
- Teeth knocked out or fractured
- Broken teeth or fillings
- Cracked teeth
- Abscessed teeth
- Lip lacerations
Your Friend, Pain
Pain is unpleasant, but it serves a useful purpose. “Pain is actually your friend,” Dr. Joe points out. “Your wake-up-call. It’s a signal for you to take immediate action.”
In many cases, a dental emergency is actually a signal that an ongoing, neglected dental problem has progressed to a point where it finally must be addressed. In this case, pain can be your friend indeed because it can help you regain your dental health and prevent even worse problems.
The Path of Pain vs. the Path of Health
As Dr. Joe explains it, dental emergencies are an opportunity to help patients move from what he calls the Path of Pain to the Path of Health.
“Many people exist on the Path of Pain,” Dr. Joe explains, “On this path you don’t have to make any effort at all. You’ll have long periods of relative comfort interrupted by brief but agonizing intervals of blinding pain. You’ll experience dental nightmare scenarios involving root canals, extractions and the like. Chances are you won’t be keeping your teeth on this path.”
The good news is that there is an alternate path – the Path of Health. This path requires more work – including regular brushing and flossing along with periodic dental checkups – but the benefits are worth the effort.
“The benefit of staying on the Path of Health will be that you’ll stay healthy, comfortable and keep your teeth,” says Dr. Joe.
Changing Your Path
At Royal York Dental, many patients arrive to us on the Path of Pain. They’re in misery, and we’re happy to relieve their pain and suffering. “I love being a dental hero who eases a patient’s pain,” Dr. Joe says.
But even more gratifying is the number of patients we inspire to change from the Path of Pain to the Path of Health. In fact, many emergency dental patients not only start caring for their oral health but also choose beautifying treatments to enhance the appearance of their smiles.
“Nothing in my practice is more satisfying,” Dr. Joe relates, “than seeing patients transformed from crisis mode to a state of health and wellness in which they let their brilliant smile shine.”
