Dental Implants in Toronto – Royal York Dental

Mark Panko hated his dentures.

After two years with dentures – he described his life as miserable and finally decided to get Dental Implants.

At Royal York Dental we agree that Dental Implants are a great option for many patients who are stuck with uncomfortable dentures that slip all the time, making it hard to chew.

And Implants are not just for those like Mark who want to chuck their dentures. Patients who are missing one or two teeth often opt for Implants to repair their hillbilly grin.

What Is a Dental Implant?

A Dental Implant is an artificial tooth. It includes a titanium screw embedded in the jawbone and a cap called a Dental Crown. The Crown can be made of porcelain, metal or a combination of porcelain and metal.

“Porcelain is the ideal material for Crowns because it resembles tooth enamel and can be colored to match your surrounding teeth,” says Dr. Joe Bulger, a Toronto cosmetic dentist and the founder-owner of Royal York Dental.

“Today’s Implants not only look completely natural,” Dr. Joe continues. “They’re incredibly strong
and allow you to eat virtually any food you want.”

If you’re missing more than one tooth, the Implant can be attached to a bridge that replaces two or more teeth.

The Dental Implant Procedure: How It Works

The Dental Implant procedure requires several steps.

  • First, a titanium screw is placed in the jaw.
  • Next, a waiting period of four to six months is required while the screw fuses with the bone
    – a process known as osseointegration.
  • Following this waiting period, the Crown is placed over the Implant.

Now your teeth will look great and you’ll be able to bite into that apple or ear of corn (but, please, no beer cans).

Living with Your Dental Implants

Toronto Dental Implants patients should expect a short recovery time. But it’s very important to practice thorough oral hygiene during the osseointegration process as well as after the placement of the Crown.

“With proper care of your Implant, you can have a healthy mouth and stunning smile for many years,” says Dr. Joe.
